What makes a Euthymia Electronics pedal a better buy than a mass-produced pedal?
To begin with, our products are designed to sound good under the conditions where musicians
actually use them. Mass-produced pedals are often designed to sound good at low volume in a crowded music store where someone has maybe 10 minutes of listening to decide if they want it. There cannot be any settings that sound “bad” on a mass-produced pedal, because the big manufacturers don't want to take the chance that an un-savvy user will reject the product if it doesn't sound at least acceptable when the controls are set at their extremes. We trust that if you find the tone of the ICBM Fuzz shrill when the Tone control is set fully clockwise that you will have the sense to back off on it to get a sound you do like. And the “shrill” sound is there in case someone finds it useful (try playing the double-stop intro to "Revolution" with the Tone control all the way up on your ICBM:-).
Every Crucible Fuzz uses a pair of transistors screened for gain. This ensures that each finished unit will perform as we expect. It is not economically feasible for a mass-producer to individually screen components before assembly.
Every Crucible Fuzz has its biasing resistor selected while the unit is powered up. This eliminates the need for trimpots. It is easier to do it with a trimpot, but using a fixed resistor ensures that the value cannot be accidentally changed.
Euthymia Electronics uses new old stock (vintage, but never used) semiconductors
needed to create the sounds in the ICBM Fuzz and Crucible Fuzz Ge. They cost more, but we have
found no current production semiconductors that work.
Every Euthymia pedal uses only top grade silver Teflon wire.
Every Euthymia pedal uses a fiberglass printed circuit board for best ruggedness and reliability. Most mass-produced effects use phenolic printed circuit boards, which break easily and are difficult to repair.
Every Euthymia pedal is built in a cast aluminum case for maximum ruggedness.
Every control and jack on every Euthymia pedal is solidly mounted on the case, and connected to the circuit via silver Teflon wire. Most mass-produced pedals mount their controls and jacks on the circuit board, which makes them more fragile.
The fact that each of our products is built by hand means that every component and every solder joint is visually inspected during assembly.
Every pedal is play tested with a guitar and amplifier at various settings to make sure it sounds good. Most mass-producers are not willing to spend the money to have a musician test each unit.
Finally, we want you to be happy with the product. We believe that the best advertisement
for any product is happy users. So if your Euthymia pedal breaks,
and we'll fix or replace it at no charge. If you're in the USA you pay shipping one way. If you are outside the USA, you pay shipping both ways. This offer applies whether you bought the pedal new or used.
